Member Spotlight

How well do you know your fellow congregants? Do you feel like RUMC is your family? Sometimes we can get so caught up in our own lives, that we miss an opportunity to be a part of a community. For the next year or so we will be introducing you to each other through Member Spotlight! And we want to hear from you! Who do you want to learn more about! Send us your nominations and we’ll have you all knowing everyone in RUMC by next year!

Ted Murphy

INTRO

Ted Murphy is a man on the go. He has competed in Senior Olympics at the State level for over 30 years and plans to go again next month! You can see him sporting the two gold medals he won at the National Senior Olympics held recently in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ted blasted the competition to win gold medals in his age division (95-99) in javelin and discus events. In addition to these sports, Ted is a regular golfer and bowls with a league, too.

HOW DO YOU SERVE THE CHURCH?

Ted has been a member of Rockville UMC since 1979 and is still faithful in attendance every Sunday he is in town!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY

Ted was married to his beloved wife Shirley for 70 years. He is the proud father of Linda, Steven and Barbara, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

TELL US A LITTLE MORE ABOUT YOUR LIFE

Ted served in the US Air Force in World War II and in Korea. Educated as a geologist he served in the oil industry for several years before becoming a county planner. He served on a bi-county commission for Montgomery and Prince George’s County where he was deeply involved in a watershed study for the two counties. After coming to Montgomery County as a county planner he used his know how and position to insure proper care of the environment.

Be sure to say “Hi” to Ted when you see him and congratulate him on his gold medals!
